Fairbanks one killed by law enforcement officers after the exchange of shots

A 36-year-old man from Fairbanks was shot by the police on Monday evening, after getting to an apartment complex, in response to a report on a home dispute.

Thomas Bean shot and killed 29-year-old Jesse Bidgood from the North Pole before the police arrived on Monday evening in the Washington Avenue speech, as from a explanation of the Fairbanks Police Department and State Trooper Alaska.

Bean started shooting a half-automatic rifle on fair bench police officers when they came to the area and met their vehicles, the explanation says. The incident was reported shortly before 10:25 p.m.

The police and beans exchanged shots, and Bean was hit in this exchange, the explanation said.

“Several soldiers of the State of Alaska and additional (police) officers responded to assist. “Because of his actions, several law enforcement officers shot on Bean who met him fatally.”

Two police officers were treated with minor injuries in connection with splinters, the explanation said.

It was not immediately clear how Bean and Bidgood knew each other.

The Alaska Bureau of Investigation is the main agency when examining the incident. As soon as this investigation has been completed, the State Office for Special Execution will check the application of fatal violence by the law enforcement officers involved.

The soldiers who have released their firearms were placed on seven days of administrative leave according to the guidelines of the Ministry of Public Security. The police officers of Fairbanks who have released their firearms were brought into administrative leave in accordance with the guidelines of the department.

The names of all officials who have released their firearms will be published in three days, said officials from both agencies.

“We acknowledge that incidents of this kind can be deeply traumatic for all those affected – including families, friends, witnesses and first aiders,” said Ron Dupee, chief of police from Fairbanks. “We sincerely appreciate the persistent cooperation and patience to the public.”

The shootout was the second in which Alaska's law enforcement authorities were involved on Monday evening. A police officer at Anchorage shot the driver of a vehicle shortly after 11:30 p.m. for a traffic disability, the police said on Tuesday.

Everyone with information related to the Fairbanks case is asked to contact the Bureau of Investigation under number 907-451-5100.
