The recovery of a hero: boys in the northeast of Philadelphia aircraft crash again finds the reason

Philadelphia (WPVI) – Andre Howard became the moment when he came into being to protect his little sister to protect a medical jet in the northeast of Philadelphia.

Now, just a few months later, the 10-year-old is amazing doctors with his recovery and inspires many with his courage.

On January 31, a medical aircraft with six people crashed near Cottman and the Roosevelt Boulevard. All six people on board were killed, as were two people on site.

Andre, who was in the car with his father, younger brother and sister at the time, was hit by ruins when he tried to protect his sister from impact.

“I just saw a big fire and my father told me that I should protect my little sister and I tried to jump on her,” recalled Andre.

The NTSB published new details on the cockpit language recorder and a computer on board that was restored.

Although he doesn't remember that he had felt a lot of pain at the moment, he knew that something was wrong.

“It felt like I had to hand over and had bad headaches,” he said.

Andre was brought to the children's hospital in Philadelphia (Chop), where he spent several operations and tests over a month. His mother, Lashawn Hamiel, showed where doctors had to do cuts due to the damage to the crash.

“When we had to copy, they told us that he would be Paraplegic because he had no feeling,” she said.

But Andre began to recover against the chances. Visits to relatives and even Eagles Wide Receiver AJ Brown raised his mood.

“I think it's the new me,” smiled Andre. “Because I got better in my game and my basketball.”

His physiotherapy included walking, and now he concentrated to regain fine motor skills on the left and how to brush the teeth and tie his shoes.

“When they told me for the first time [I wouldn’t walk]I was sad. But now I'm not, “he said.” I can move anything. “

When asked what message he wants to take people from his experience, Andre did not hesitate.

“You have to work hard and always protect people,” he said.

Andre received another surprise on the day of this interview: he happened to attend the station when the retired Eagles star Brandon Graham was welcomed in the lobby.

The two had the chance to meet, and Andre told his story about heroism and resilience – lively proof of what it means to rise from the tragedy.
