New report shows the negative effects of the needs certificate in Alabama

A new report by Americans for Prosperity Foundation – Alabama shows how the laws on the certificate of needs (Cros) have a negative impact on health systems in the Yellowhammer state.

The report argues that the fraudsters increase the health costs for Alabamians and at the same time reduce the quality of the supply they receive.

“This new report underlines the crucial importance of canceling the necessity of Alabama,” said Adam Thompson, Afpf-Al State Director. “These costly regulations reduce the competition in Alabama's medical system, lower the recipients of patients with the quality of nursing, the innovations and investments in Alabama's health system.”

According to the report, the cones are redirecting millions of dollars that could otherwise be invested in order to improve Alabama's health results. It also shows how the fraudsters innovate and suffocate the ability to participate in health service providers on the market.

“At a time when many neighbors in Alabama have rolled back these stressful regulations,” continued Thompson, “our state cannot afford to do nothing.”

There have been many attempts to reform or abolish laws in Alabama, including the state auditor Andrew Sorrell, who presented a draft law as a state representative in 2022.

“[I] As if you were calling it a Con law because the only people they are able to do are competition, ”said Sorrell at the time.”[I]T is an obstacle to the free market competition in the health system. … I have taken this bill for several years, a lot more attention is now being drawn because we are in a coronavirus pandemic. Since we now have a lack of hospital beds and everyone as we are, the government has to solve this problem, maybe the government has contributed to developing this problem. Maybe we should start there. “

The AFP-AL report contained indications of the positive effects on the abolition of the fraudulent laws for Alabamians.

“In the absence of a Con program, the researchers, the Alabama appreciate, would compare more than 178 hospitals compared to the current 126,” the report said. “Patients would also expect to save over $ 200 a year for the total healthcare expenditure.

AFPF-AL reported that almost 50 Con requirements for the books in Alabama were paid for $ 7.7 million in Alabama, which providers paid for application fees in the past 10 years. While Alabama is consistently on the quality and the results of health care, the report also shows how the fraudsters suffocate the innovation and the ability to use the health service providers on the market.
