The PGA championship begins this week in the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, where Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Bryson Dechambeau and Xander Schauffele are among the betting favorites in the second Major of the Golf.

The return to Quail Hollow Marks the first time when the PGA championship has been at the event location since 2017 when Justin Thomas demanded his first big championship.

As with every major, there are two -time plot lines.

After his career Grand Slam last month at the Masters tournament, McIlroy continued his momentum in a course in which he has already won four PGA tour events. The group reporting presented only on ESPN+ will have eight groups per day on Thursday and Friday (four in the morning and four in the afternoon) from 8 a.m. to the end of the game.

PGA championship favorites and groups presented

Among the outstanding groups on Thursday, Scottie Scheffler No. 1, No. 2 McIlroy, and the defending champion Xander Schuffele, which closes together at 8:22 a.m. This group will be on the course again on Friday afternoon at 1:47 p.m. ET.

“I play with two people who play one of the best golfs in the world. “This is still the strongest field in the Golf. Nine -nine of the top -100 players are here,” said Don Rea, President of PGA of America. “If you are the best, you have to beat the best.”

What you can expect from Quail Hollow … and the weather at the PGA championship

When the PGA championship was last played in Quail Hollow, Thomas won two shots about Francesco Molinari, Louis Oosthuizen and Patrick Reed.

This year Quail Hollow will be a par 71 again and will play a little longer than 2017 at 7,626 yards.

“It's a really hard golf course,” said Schauffele. “I think everyone knows what they have to do. There is no trick to play this golf course. Many people will hit it in the same place. Many people will miss it in the same place, and it is about who is not bad because it is as if it is better and is reduced if they are not in position and who can be in a good position.”

After a challenging start to the week with heavy rain, which means that the practice round on Monday is closed for the spectators, the tournament days themselves look promising. The forecast for Thursday to Sunday shows the temperatures in mid to high 80s with moderate winds between 5 to 12 miles per hour.

“The approach in 16 is very hard. The discount to 17 is really hard. Then you have two really challenging shots on 18 with the water on the left,” said Scheffler. “There is no real breath in this holes in the holes and should be a funny finish.”
