The PGA championship begins this week in the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, where Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Bryson Dechambeau and Xander Schauffele are among the betting favorites in the second Major of the Golf.

The return to Quail Hollow Marks the first time when the PGA championship has been at the event location since 2017 when Justin Thomas demanded his first big championship.

As with every major, there are two -time plot lines.

After his career Grand Slam last month at the Masters tournament, McIlroy continued his momentum in a course in which he has already won four PGA tour events. Scheffler, who achieved a victory at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, in which he achieved a winning score of 31-Unter-PAR, tries a more routine PGA championship week as last year, in which he was arrested and taken away in Kentucky before the second round in Valhalla Country Club, and returned in front of Jail and less than an hour before his time return.

The defense of PGA Champion Xander Schauffele, which in the meantime adds another Wanamaker trophy to his collection after his breakthrough in the major in 2024.

The championship is planned for May 15th to 18th and can be observed via a mixture of broadcast television and streaming services, with extensive reporting in several networks in all four days of the tournament.

PGA championship favorites and groups presented

Among the outstanding groups on Thursday, Scottie Scheffler No. 1, No. 2 McIlroy, and the defending champion Xander Schuffele, which closes together at 8:22 a.m. This group will be on the course again on Friday afternoon at 1:47 p.m. ET.

“I play with two people who play one of the best golfs in the world. Xander won two majors last year, and Rory has already won the players and the Masters this year, so he plays a fantastic golf,” said Scheffler, who took second place in his last two PGA championships. “It should be a lot of fun. I have seen this pairing before and we have a good time out there and it is competitive. I think if I look back on my career, this will be some of the most beautiful memories that can play and compete with some of the best players in the world to try to win tournaments.”

The three-time PGA championship winner Brooks Koepka plays with fan favorite Rickie Fowler and Shane Lowry, who will be demolished on Thursday at 7:38 a.m. and on Friday at 1:03 p.m.

Among the convincing groups in the afternoon wave on Thursday, Jordan Spieth tries his own career Grand Slam, who, alongside Patrick Reed and Ludvig Aberg, at 1:25 p.m.

Thomas, who does not see many similarities to the course in which he won the PGA championship in 2017, will complete Dustin Johnson and Collin Morikawa on Thursday at 1:14 p.m.

“It was eight years ago. It was a completely different golf course,” said Thomas. “It was Bermuda (grass) in August in May. But the fact that I know the golf course and have some success is definitely helpful.”

What you can expect from Quail Hollow … and the weather at the PGA championship

When the PGA championship was last played in Quail Hollow, Thomas won two shots about Francesco Molinari, Louis Oosthuizen and Patrick Reed.

This year Quail Hollow will be a par 71 again and will play a little longer than 2017 at 7,626 yards.

“It's a really hard golf course,” said Schauffele. “I think everyone knows what they have to do. There is no trick to play this golf course. Many people will hit it in the same place. Many people will miss it in the same place, and it is about who is not bad because it is as if it is better and is reduced if they are not in position and who can be in a good position.”

After a challenging start to the week with heavy rain, which means that the practice round on Monday is closed for the spectators, the tournament days themselves look promising. The forecast for Thursday to Sunday shows the temperatures in mid to high 80s with moderate winds between 5 to 12 miles per hour.

On Thursday there is only a rain probability of 10% that rose to 30% on Friday, 40% on Saturday and 20% on Sunday. While there is the possibility of afternoon storms, especially on Friday and Saturday, the weather will not probably be significantly disturbing the game.

The precipitation in the early week could lead to softer course conditions and possibly prefer longer rackets that can use the lengthy layout.

Quail Hollows famous “Green Mile” -decaying – holes 16, 17 and 18 – is considered one of the toughest final sequences in the big championship golf and could again prove to be a decisive test in the last round on Sunday.

“The approach in 16 is very hard. The discount to 17 is really hard. Then you have two really challenging shots on 18 with the water on the left,” said Scheffler. “There is no real breath in this holes in the holes and should be a funny finish.”
