A river runs through him

About 100 people gathered on Tuesday evening for the first public look at a project that started as an idea almost 20 years ago. The planning is good, the construction and other projects will start next year at this time, and by 2030 the Smoky Hill River will be revived and flows through Salina again.

Martha Tasker, director of the city of Salina Utilities, was one of the hosts' hosts who passed the Smoky Hill River River project.

Tasker tells Ksal News that a large part of the project builds seven bridges along the over 6 miles long river that will flow through the city. The bridges currently replace existing boxing through.

New Bridges is located in Lakewood Park, Elm Street, Ash Street, Iron Street, Midway, Ymca Drive and South Ohio Street.

Tasker says that there will be 6.3 miles along the river, which will be 10 feet wide in most parts. The trails have lighting and connect two more miles to the dike system.

Other important elements are two pedestrian interruptions under the streets of North Ohio and South Ohio.

There will be four kayak / canoe start areas.

There are also plans for a promenade and an area of 4th Street Plaza.

During the construction process, the US Army Corps of Engineers will drag the river at the same time and remove the mud that has built up over the years.

There will be a need for the city to acquire a country as part of the project. No structures are influenced, but sections of the country must be used.

The Smoky Hill River Renewal project, in its entirety, costs 68.8 million US dollars, 39.8 million dollars come from other sources, including grants and private money, and the city contributes 29 million US dollars.
