Trump's newest: US President to meet the Syrian leader before he to Qatar | US messages

In a few hours, Donald Trump will meet in a personal meeting with Syrian President Ahmad Al Sharaa.

This happened after he announced that the United States had been raising many years of sanctions against Syria since 2011.

Why is that a surprise?

The Syrian leader is a unique insurgent guide who has been imprisoned by US armed forces for years after being captured in Iraq.

He was appointed President of Syria in January, one month after an offensive of insurgent groups, led by his Hayat Tahrir Al Sham or HTS, stormed Damascus and ended the Assad family's 54-year rule.

Al Sharaa, formerly known as Abu Mohammed Al Jolani, came to the US armed forces in Iraq and still presents himself before an arrest warrant against his arrest for terrorism in this country.

The United States once offered $ 10 million for information about its whereabouts because it left to Al -Qaida on the left.

The new Syrian President returned to his home country of Syria after the conflict began in 2011 and led Al -Qaida's branch, which was previously known as a Nusra front.

Later he changed the name of his group in Hayat Tahrir al Sham and cut connections with Al -Qaida.

Trump said he had agreed to meet Al Sharaa after being encouraged to do this by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

More information about Al Sharaa can be found in our profile from December when his forces plunged Assad:
