The best score of the season helps Newton Boys Climb Socones-Newton Daily News-Newton Daily News

A change in his putter may not be necessary, but Jackson Price felt that it was too many shots on the green during the Gilbert Invitational last weekend.

Price shot a 76, although two placed most of his holes that day, but he was even better on his home course during the last round of the Little Hawkeye Conference tournament on Monday.

The cardinal in the second year achieved a new career best score on the Par 71 Westwood Golf Course, and his 3-Unter-PAR 68 catapulted him to the top of the ranking after 72 holes.

“I changed a putter after the meeting on Saturday because I felt that I left so much out there with the putter,” said Price. “The driver probably worked as well as he could have, and you have better opportunities to meet Greens. I think it was only everything that clicked today.”

The prize started the day in a three-way difference for second place and this group was six shots by Pellas Kyler Besick.

But his best 18-hole preparation round pressed him forward after Besick had shot a final round 77.

It was a strong day for the cardinals in general when they fired a best of the season 310 and took second place behind the conference champion Pella Christian.

The Eagles shot 307 on Monday and were 24 shots in front of Pella after the final figures were rated. You won the LHC title last season with 33 strokes.

Newton's last round led it past Oskaloosa in the last ranking. The Dutch (318) and the Indians (343) finished third or fourth on Monday.

“We had another great day on the left,” said Pat Riley, Golf coach from Newton Head Boys. “I am really proud of how this team strengthened these last two meetings. They show me what I always believed that they were capable of.”

Price opened his last round with three straight birdies and those who kept up the rest of the path. He won the conference championship with a four-round value of 303.

Price, who became sixth in the conference last season, was the only golfer in the field to score four rounds in the 70s.

“It obviously helped that it was my home course and I think it has a bit of advantage how to approach every hole,” said Price. “It is a great trust. The schedule, which is set up with the last regular season meeting in Westwood, is very advantageous for me.”

Peyton Rozendaal scored a career of 76 and was the third overall on Monday. Lane Rozendaal and Mason Smith carded 83er for the final meter results.

Carter Forst (92) and Lincoln Peterson (96) scored not shown.

Riley used the last two regular season meetings of the cardinals to determine his university list for sections on Wednesday.

And five cardinals went under 90 at the university level. This group was led by Ethan Pagelers 85.

Newton 310 were 22 strokes better than the round of last year in Westwood.

“Our team is shooting all the cylinders,” said Riley. “I really hope that we can carry that into sections.”

Last year's LHC champion, Eliot Menninga by Pella Christian, was the runner-up at 72 on Monday. He ended a blow back from Besick, who landed with a 306 after a final round 77.

Pella Christian and Pella grabbed 10 of the 12 All-Conference spots. The four best finishers are first teams, the next four are second teams and the last four Earf Areafables.

Pella Christian's four-round number of four was 1,253 and Pella was the runner-up with a 1,277. Newton shot 1.347 in the third and Oscaloosa (1,371).
