Two people were killed in a fiery crash in Claremont early Monday morning when a Tesla slapped into a tree.

According to Claremont Police Department, the crash occurred around 2:10 a.m. in the E. Sixth Street near the Mills Avenue. The crews arrived and found that the Tesla on the side of the road had joined a tree and had broken up into flames.

A team for dangerous materials was also called into the scene to cope with the fire due to the lithium batteries of the car, said the crews.

“The toxic vapors and gases that arise from these batteries are flammable and extremely poisonous,” said Shawn Millerick, captain of the fire brigade of San Bernardino County. “The engine behind us usually wears 500 gallons of water. We need it 10 -times.”

After deleting the fire, the crews found the driver and a passenger dead. Relatives of Rashed Bledsoe identified him as death that died.

“He was the person of a people. Everyone loved him,” said Sister Bridgette Bledsoe. “Anyone who came into contact with him has behaved like that for 25 years.”

Since then, the car has been removed as evidence from the area, the police said. They also found that the road section on which the crash, which runs through the five Claremont Colleges, had only had a crash in the past.
