Albania's socialists achieve the election victory

Fraud claimed:
The leader of an opposition alliance blamed on elections and called for a protest in Tirana because the European leaders should meet

The socialist party of the Albanian Prime Minister Edi Ramas achieved a great win in the parliamentary elections and secured his fourth term, and the official results showed on Tuesday.

The socialist party won 52.1 percent of the vote on Sunday, compared to 34.2 percent for an alliance of opposition parties, which was led by its main competitor Sali Berisha.

Diaspora votes still have to be counted, but after the first results, Rama also led there.

After projections, the socialist party could have more legislators than in 2021. At that time it won 74 seats in the meeting with 140 seats.

The vote was dominated by the competition between the triple prime minister Rama (60), who concentrated his campaign on European integration and Berisha from the Democratic Party of Albania.

The two fought mainly in economic questions such as pensions, wages, infrastructure and tourism, but there was also a bitter exchange about the fight against corruption and the organized crime, both of which are considered essential requirements for Albania's EU offer.

On Tuesday, the 80-year-old Berisha-Albania's first post-communist presidential allegations for elections that accused the socialists of the pressure, fraud and buying votes.

“It is impossible to reconcile with such elections. No, forget [about] That ”, he said reporters in Tirana.

The election was carefully observed by the EU and regarded as a test for the democratic maturity of the Balkans, which by far the region oriented in Europe.

“The elections were generally managed in an integrative and transparent way, although the election day was calm and well organized despite some defects,” said Vice President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, and the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, in a joint explanation.

Without waiting for the official results, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni congratulated Rama on his “Returning as Head of the Albanian government” late Tuesday.

The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and the British Prime Minister Keir Starrer also congratulated Rama on the election victory.

In the voice on Sunday, around 40 parties tried to attract the ballot papers of 3.7 million voters.
