Samantha Humphrey's ex-boyfriend arrested in her death of 2022

A arrest was made in the death of Samantha Humphrey 2022.

Samantha's ex-boyfriend, now 17 years old, was charged in her death for murder's second degree.

Samantha had come into a fight with the ex-boyfriend on the night when she was missing, the investigators said.

So far, however, he was officially connected to the crime. He was now charged with the second degree murder. His name was not published at that time, and New Schannel 13 will not name him.

The capital region fascinated this story for 2 ½ years. Samantha was last seen on November 25, 2022 in the Riverside Park in Schenectady's Stockade Quarter.

At a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, the district prosecutor of Schenectady, Robert Carney, outlined what led to that night.

“We believe that Samantha believed that she was pregnant and this friend was the father at some point. He didn't want to do anything with the baby and insisted that they would get rid of the baby,” he said.

The two argued when they walked along the river. According to Carney, the 17-year-old caused her death through strangulation and suffocation.

Carney said the accused was a suspect from the start, but he had to make sure that they carried out a thorough examination and had sufficient evidence to collect charges.

“If we go with a case too early before we have all evidence, this could endanger our success,” he said.

This was a very complicated investigation that, according to Carney, video evidence of public and private cameras, GPS tracking and cell phone tracking.

In December 2022 and February 2023, they applied for arrest warrants that produced hours of recordings, said Carney.

A break in this case came five months in the investigation when detectives became aware of the existence of an iPad that could contain useful evidence.

Carney said that many agencies were involved in the investigation, including the main crimes of the state police, special investigations unit, an underwater recreation team that made many dives into the water.

The autopsy initially decided that the cause of death was indefinite. Carney said they had met with medical examiners several times. He had believed that it was probably a murder, but he had to rule out suicide.

Carney said that because of new information, he could come to the conclusion that it was a murder.

Carney said that a large amount of resources from his office from his office was dedicated.

The deputy deputy district prosecutor Christina N. Tremante solved her calendar to monitor the case.

According to Carney, the case was brought in front of a special Grand jury to hear this case.

“I know that this public prosecutor would require several steps and express it before one of our seated big juries would require an inappropriate amount of work,” he said.

A total of 23 jurors heard 46 witnesses and all evidence over a period of three weeks. Carney said the prosecutors had treated it like a legal proceedings.

“It was like a puzzle. We had to put together all parts,” said Carney.

The accused was arrested on the way to school and charged with the Schenectady County Court. He was not guilty and sent to a youth welfare authority.

Carney said because he was a teenager at the time of crime, his name is not published and the maximum prison sentence with which he is confronted is 15 years for life.

Carney called this case an “insult to the community”.

“Although every life is precious, the death of a 14-year-old child who lived all her life is particularly difficult,” he said.

Police chief Eric Clifford said the case was tragic for the community – including law enforcement.

“A young life has been lost and another young person is charged with this loss,” he said. “No family should ever have to endure this kind of pain.”
