The judge weighs whether Shanquella Robinson should be the case in the USA or Mexico

Charlotte, NC (WBTV) – Almost three years after the Charlotte wife Shanquella Robinson died on vacation in Mexico, her family urges a civil lawsuit that can be heard in the USA.

On Wednesday, May 14th, a federal judge in Charlotte heard applications, which were able to determine where the legal dispute against the so -called “Cabo Six” will act.

The 25 -year -old Robinson died in October 2022 when he took over in a luxury villa in Cabo San Lucas with six other people. Later a video was created in which Robinson was attacked, and her family said for a long time that her death was not an accident.

In October 2024, Robinson's family submitted an illegal death action, in which compensation for battery, negligence, conspiracy and emotional stress were submitted, among other things.

Push for us trial

The most important problem that discussed in the hearing on Wednesday was whether the case should be brought to court in the United States – where all six accused live – or in Mexico, where the fatal incident took place.

Lawyers for several accused have submitted applications to reject the case. These lawyers argue that the case in Mexico should be treated, which you claim is the right responsibility in the event.

Sue-Ann Robinson, the lawyer of Shanquella Robinson's family, claims that the United States is actually the right place in the event.

“An American citizen should not go to overseas, harm another US citizen and return to the United States and essentially say that they are not liable,” said Sue-Ann Robinson in front of the courthouse.

Sue-Ann Robinson added that it would be an inappropriate burden to force the family into a legal dispute in Mexico and to notice the considerable costs, language barriers and differences in the legal systems.

Frustration of the family and demand for justice

Robinson's father, Bernard Robinson, expressed his frustration over the slow pace of the legal process. He said he just wants justice for his daughter.

“I prefer that the case will be handled here in the United States because they came back and have lied to the entire United States,” said Bernard Robinson. “I just want justice.”

The hearing on Wednesday was part of one of two complaints that the Robinson family submitted.

In addition to the case of death, the family sued the FBI and the US State Department for $ 100 million and demands a lack of care in the investigation.

Next Steps

The US district judge Max Cogburn made no decision on the applications for dismissal on Wednesday.

The judge said he would take the matter under advice and probably made a decision within a week.

FBI knowledge published this year

The FBI published some of its findings about the case this year.

A report published in February began with Shanquella Robinson and her friends to go to Mexico to celebrate one of their birthdays in 2022. The report added that the group remained in an Airbnb.

New information in the report showed that Shanquella Robinson's friends “said that she drank and hit her head on the toilet.”

The report also said someone in the group thought that there were two cameras in the house and tried to get the film material.

At this point, the report stated that someone had contacted the local law enforcement authorities in Mexico. Someone later saw pictures of Shanquella Robinson's body that showed her bruises, and a person described that it looked like “she stamped”.

First death reports against autopsy report

Shanquella Robinson's parents were told by others on the trip that she had become sick with alcohol poisoning.

After Shanquella Robinson died, Mexican authorities said the family that alcohol poisoning was determined as the cause of death.

Despite the alleged reports, Shanquella Robinson's death certificate from Mexico suggested a different story: she died of a serious spinal cord injury.

Robinson's spine intact and contradicted earlier claims from Mexican authorities who initially said that Robinson's spine was broken and contradicted an autopsy of Shanquella Robinson, which was carried out in Charlotte on November 17, 2022 in Charlotte.
