The incident with a shootout in Dauphin Street underlines the importance of consciousness for mental health

Mobile, Ala. (Wala) -Am Monday, the mobile police arrested 43-year-old Roderick Alexander, after claiming that he had opened fire on oncoming traffic during the typical peaceful morning pendulum. The incident comes just a few weeks after the other, in whom a man who is caught in front of the camera and approaches a house while holding a knife.

“It is becoming increasingly common in the United States. Deinstutationalization began in the 1950s and the patient's Bill of Rights accompanied it,” said Dr. Cindy Gipson from Altapointe Health.

In recent years, mobile police officers have trained with simulators of virtual reality and other tools to help them better recognize mental health and to react to crises.

“We are fixing ourselves in order to take part in a large program between us and the sheriff department to try to certify as many of our civil servants as possible in CIT training,” said William Jackson, head of the mobile phone policy.

The aim of the training is to solve incidents peacefully and to combine people who need treatment. Although the incident ended in an arrest on Monday, Dr. Cindy Gipson with Altapointe that the training still helped.

“I think the more training you have when understanding the psychological health problems that the person does not do so maliciously,” added Dr. Gipson added. “It is just a side effect from the symptoms you experience.”

According to Dr. Gipson is one of the greatest challenges that they cannot provide preventive help unless someone reports the behavior.

“People have the right to decide whether they want to be in the treatment or not unless they are an open danger to themselves or others,” said Dr. Gipson. “Even then, this must be directed to the attention of a person because we are not a state like Florida in which the Baker Act, in which a law enforcement officer can be called, and a person can be held immediately under a commitment to mental health.”

Alexander is still behind bars in the U -Bahn prison and is held on NO Bond.
