Ceremony honors officers in Hattiesburg who were killed in service

Hattiesburg, Miss. (WDAM) – law enforcement officers from the Hattiesburg Police Department and the Sheriff office of the Forrest County, who were killed in service, were honored on Wednesday.

An annual police police police for the law enforcement of the law enforcement agencies in Pine Belt has honored six Hattiesburg police officers and five office officials of the Sheriff of Forrest County, who achieved the ultimate victim for their community.

The ceremony, which took place in the Lake Terrace Convention Center, included laying a wreath and a gun of 21 gun.

The name of every fallen officer “killed in service” was read out loud, including:

  • HPD officer Jessie James Everett (March 9, 1952)
  • HPD officer MW Vinson Jr. (March 9, 1952)
  • HPD Sergeant David Anthony (May 23, 19732)
  • HPD Sergeant Jackie Dole Sherrill December 31, 1984)
  • HPD officer Benjamin J. Deen (May 9, 2015)
  • HPD Officer Liquori Tate (May 9, 2015)
  • FCSO officer Howard Lee Hagwood (October 1, 1927)
  • FCSO officer Howard Stewart G. Coates (March 23, 1933)
  • FCSO officer Frederick (cotton) Humphrey (March 26, 1965)
  • FCSO officer Johnny B. Watts (December 15, 1976)
  • FCSO officer John R. Klem III (September 30, 1985).

“Your legacy is not only engraved on the sides of the story, but also lives in the hearts of those who loved them and those who inspired them,” said Hardy Sims, head of the Hattiesburg police,.

The State Secretary of Mississippi, Michael Watson, served as a guest speaker of the ceremony.
