Chair of the European Parliament calls for an independent investigation into the suspicious death of Tulku Hungkar Dorje

Brussels, April 30, 2025: The Chair of the European Parliament's Subcommittee on Human Rights, Mep Mounir Satouri, and the Chair of the Delegation for Relations With the People's Republic of China, Mep Engin Eroglu, Have Joinly Addressed A Letter to the Chinese Ambassador to the European Union Concering The Suspicious Death of prominent Tibetan Buddhist Leader, Tulku Hungkar Dorje. At the same time, the chairman of the subcommittee for human rights sent a separate letter to the Vietnamese ambassador to the EU, which reflects similar concerns.

Both letters express a serious problem and alarm about the inexplicable circumstances of Tulku Hungkar Dorje's death and the subsequent cremation of his body in Vietnam without the consent of his family.

The chairpersons ask both the Chinese and the Vietnamese authorities to ensure a transparent, independent and impartial examination in order to disappear the circumstances of Tulku Hungkar Dorjes and to determine the cause of his death.

The common letter ended with the call for engagement and states: “We sincerely hope that the People's Republic of China will be a constructive partner to throw light on the circumstances of the disappearance and death of Tulku Hungkar Dorje.”
