The manufacturer of Brampton Brick is facing a further fine for injuries to the workplace

Brampton, ont. -Just a few days after a Bulletin of the Court in Ontario had been published in the fact that Brick Limited had been occupied with a fine of 225,000 US dollars after a death for workers, the company was again received with a fine of 65,000 US dollars with regard to a separate incident that took place in 2023.

In a press release report on April 21, 2023, a worker was cleaned by a form that was used on a block machine to produce the support wall products. Since the same shape would be used during the next layer, the worker decided to clean the shape in the machine instead of removing it.

In order to clean hardened debris out of the mold, the worker opened the machine of the machine, which prevented access to the movable parts of the block machine, but did not exclude the machine or switched off the power. In order to access the back of the form, the worker asked a colleague for help with the increase in the machine.

In order to lift the head, the employee had to move the two floor switches onto the control panel of the machine at the same time. The employee wrongly moved the switch in the wrong direction and critically injured the other worker, the publication said.

An investigation of the work, immigration, training and ability development ministry determined, although the employer had procedures, training and signage on the contrary, it was a standard practice in the workplace not to rule out the block machine when cleaning the forms in order to save time.

As a result, Brickton Brick Limited failed to do any information, instructions and supervision for an employee in relation to the secure cleaning of the form of the block machine in contrast to sections 25 (2) (a) and 66 (1) of the law on the occupational safety offer. After a guilty plea on February 5th, Brick Limited was punished by the peace judge Bryan Snyder.
