Lauren Preer asked himself more than two decades who was responsible for the murder of her mother Leslie. But when the authorities finally named a suspect last summer when she announced his arrest, she had a word to describe the revelation: “unreal”.

The native Chevy Chase in Washington, DC, told Local Fox 5 after her unique friend of Eugene Teodor Gligor guilty the murder of her mother last week.

The 45 -year -old Gligor was arrested last year and accused of murder of Leslie Preer in the family's house in May 2001 – a murder case that got cold for more than two decades before the investigators finally took a break using family DNA to identify a relative and build a family tree to identify the killer.

Local NBC 4 in Washington, DC, reported that Leslies Fall was the first time in the history of the state of Maryland that the police could use the advanced forensic DNA technology to identify a murder -suspect by using family tree and ultimately led it to the killer.

“We identified a distant relative who lived in Romania. With this information they had to build a family tree,” said John McCarthy, prosecutor of the state of Montgomery County, according to Outlet. “After he was arrested on the basis of this DNA result, we carried out a confirmation test and tested his DNA again to assure itself that it was actually Mr. Gligors DNA.”

McCarthy announced the local NBC 4 that the DNA of Gligor was found in several places throughout the house. “The damn evidence in the case was the DNA, which was under Ms. Preer's fingernails because she had to struggle with her attacker,” he said.

The outlet reported that Leslie was found home in the bathroom of the suburban Washington, DC of her family, after she had not appeared for work. The investigators could not match DNA that were found throughout the house that they suspected that they wanted to harm them, reported Wusa 9.

The case was cold until September 2022 when the investigators examined possible DNA compounds with family gene tests. A family tree that was created with the DNA, which was found at the scene, ultimately led to Gligor, who was with Lauren Preer with both 15 years and a friend of the family.

“We never thought in a million years that one of our people could hurt my mother like this,” said Lauren about NBC 4 about her mother's murderer.

According to Wusa 9, Gligor could be exposed to a maximum of 30 years in prison.
