The Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum has spoken publicly for the first time since he suffered a devastating Achilles tendon rupture, which ended his season and threatens a large part of the campaign from 2025–26.

On Wednesday, Tatum published a photo from his hospital bed on Instagram, which was heavily cast with his right leg. The capacity signature was simply: “grateful for all the love and support.”

Tatum then wrote the TNT announcement Reggie Miller with another message to the fans in Boston's eventful game 5 against the New York Knicks. It read: “I am down on the ground and appreciate all the love and support of everyone. … This injury will not define me and I can hardly wait to be back in Celtic Green to show you why.”

The injury occurred late in the fourth quarter of game 4 against the Knicks when Tatum chased a loose ball. He broke to the ground without contact and was helped in front of the square. In Madison Square Garden, he changed into considerable pain.

An MRI confirmed an Achilles tendon broken and Tatum was operated on the following day. The Celtics announced that the procedure was successful, but the schedule for his return remains uncertain.

Before the injury, Tatum delivered one of his most dominant playoff services and scored 42 points together with eight rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks with the defeat of 121–113 against New York.

The Celtics, which after the loss of game 4 in the semi -finals of the Eastern Conference 3: 1, are now equipped without their franchise pillar. The team expressed its support on social media and published: “The comeback will be larger than the setback.”

Tatum's injury is a considerable blow for the hopes of the championship in Boston. The 27-year-old all-NBA striker was instrumental in the success of the Celtics, and his absence as a lead playmaker, Shot creator and switchable defender leaves a considerable emptiness in the scheme of head coach Joe Mazzula.

Teammates like Jaylen Brown and Derrick White have to perform when the team tries to gather from the deficit. Before the start of the season, the Celtics were widely viewed as favorites to repeat and conquer the 19th championship of the franchise.

Achilles injuries are among the most difficult from which athletes can recover, but progress in medical treatment has improved the results.
