The Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has sent a notification of data injuries in which the attachments of the Commission uploaded the attachments on its website. This includes around 670 documents that “have been made potentially accessible,” confirms the Commission.

Around 100 of them were actually accessed online, possibly via Bing or Google – which prompted the commission to deal with the violation.

“The Commission takes the topic of privacy and data protection very seriously. It is important that people can safely share personal and sensitive information with the Commission on our website.

Exposed to personal information

The violation was not due to malicious or criminal acts, although the details are updated in the course of the investigation. Web shapes from the “Speaking of experience project (March-September 2024), nominations of the Human Rights Awards 2023 (July 3, 2023-4, 2023) and the National Anti-Racism Framework Concept Paper (October 2021-February 2022) were also affected by these data injuries.”

Many of them contain personal data from those affected, although it is not clear what was included. All those affected in this incident were reportedly notified by the organization.
