Jarred Shaw, a 34-year-old basketball player in the Indonesian basketball league, was arrested after trying to smuggle illegal drugs into the country, the police said on Thursday.

Indonesia's strict drug laws may have a lifelong prison sentence and even the death penalty if it is guilty. Convised smugglers were executed in the past by shooting the squad.

Ronald Sipayung, chief of police at Sokarno-Hatta Airport, said that the authorities had attacked Shaw's apartment right in front of the capital Jakarta, where they confiscated 132 cannabis sweeties.
