Springsteen in England breaks the Trump administration as “treacherous”

Bruce Springsteen opened his tour “Land of Hope and Dreams” in Manchester, England, with a powerful denunciation of President Trump on Wednesday and accused him and his administration, civil rights and workers to give up the allies and stand with dictators.

Even for a confessing liberal like Mr. Springsteen, it was a particularly penetrating broad side at a time when some artists seemed to avoid Mr. Trump directly, as they had done in 2017 after taking office for the first time. At that time, many prominent actors and prominent Mr. Trump condemned on shows and rallies and on television.

The 75 -year -old Mr. Springsteen, who appeared in Manchester, criticized Mr. Trump in separate remarks about his songs “Land of Hope and Dreams”, “House of a thousand guitars” and “My City of Ruins”. He later published a copy of his comments on his website and a video of them on his YouTube channel.

“The Mighty E Street Band is here tonight to call the righteous power of art, music, rock'n'roll in dangerous times,” he said. “In my house, the America that I love is the America that I have written about, which has been a beacon of hope and freedom for 250 years, is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent and treacherous administration.”

The crowd reacted with cheers, and Mr. Springsteen offered a litany of complaints about the administration and accused them of “delighting the pain they cause the loyal American workers”.

“They roll back the historical civil rights legislation that led to a fair and more plural society,” he said. “They leave our great allies and stand with dictators against those who fight for their freedom.
