Bellevue Mrs. Mears husband who were killed in climbing accident

A Bellevue woman mourns the loss of her husband, Alex Martynenen, who was among three men of King County, who were killed in the north-cascades in a fatal climbing accident.

Olga Martynenenko and her husband Alex emigrated from Ukraine six years ago and the two finally moved to Washington.

“[Alex] In love with the mountains, “said Olga.” When he went up, he just breathes and feels this energy. “

She says her husband started professionally last year and went to a climbing trip with friends on Friday, May 9th.

“[Alex] I wrote an SMS that he is on trailhead and everything is good, and he hopes that Daniel and me are fine, “said Olga.

At the time, she did not notice that her answer would be her final exchange.

“Have a good night. I love you and it was the last message,” said Olga.

Olga said she followed Alex 'ascent through a tracking device and noticed that it stalled on Saturday evening in the North Early Winters Spire area.

She wrote him another SMS several times, but her answer came in the last hours of the Mother's Day.

“At 11:30 a.m. the police knocked on my door and told me that he had died,” said Olga.

In the days since Alex 'death, Olga says that the most difficult part is to see all memories of Alex.

She says she will always remember Alex as a “bright” and “responsible” man who “wanted to make this life, this world better”.

Olga will now take care of her five-year-old son Daniel, and her friends have set up an online donation campaign to help Alex 'burial arrangements.
