The incumbent winner of the PGA championship is the American golfer Xander Schauffele, a two-time main winner. Schauffele is not so good this time, since the incumbent champion is currently above average.

After the first round, the Venezuelan golfer Jhonattan Vegas is a 500-to-one favorite to win the event. If Vegas can maintain his lead this weekend, he would be one of the most surprising main winners in the history of the event.

With Vegas in the lead of seven under par, 25-year-old American Ryan Gerard is in second place. Gerard, a native of North Carolina, has never won a PGA tour event. His best end to a major was a 56th place in 2023 at the US Open. With Gerard is Australia's Cam Davis, a 30-year-old with a top four finish in a major in his history, which took place in the 2023 PGA championship.
