On the opening night of the dead Outlaw on Broadway

Dead Outlaw is finally brought to life on Broadway! At the beginning of this week, the new musical was officially opened in the Longacre Theater and the best of Broadway came out to celebrate.

“We only tried to tell the story- to make it funny and interesting and make it surprising,” said Jeb Brown on the opening evening. “The fact that we did it to Broadway, shabby and punk as we are really funny and really pleasing.”

The new musical shows a book by Itamar Moses, music and texts by David Yazbek and Erik Della Penna and is staged by David Cromer.

Dead Outlaw is the dark funny and wild musical about the bizarre true story of Outlaw-Wurned-Corpse-application Elmer McCurdy. When Elmer's body finds even more unusual adventures in death when he could ever have hoped in life, the show explores fame, failure and meaning – or meaninglessness – of the inheritance. Dying is no reason to end life to the fullest.

“Every day I send someone to send me photos of someone who goes along the street that a dead outlaw t -shirt or swag,” added David Yazbek. “What that tells me is that there is more than just a show. There is a connection there. If someone comes back there and your show sees four or five times, there are many reasons to do … There are eight reasons in the line-up and there are five reasons in the band. Whatever is the reason that something is really durable and that makes me very happy as a creator.”
