Seram emphasizes the role of radiology in the treatment of acute mastitis

Further radiology departments, according to an upcoming course in women's imaging, which is sponsored by the Spanish Society for Medical Radiology (Seram) and American Roentgen Ray Society (Arrs), list percutaneous abscessing to treat acute mastitis.

BRUDIILOGES DIAGNATIONS AND CONTRITATIONS BROUM FORMATIONS, according to Dr. José María Oliver-Goldaracena, head of the Brustradiology section at La Paz University Hospital in Madrid, who will be a speaker at the Seram Urs course in Madrid on May 29 and 30. In recent years, technological development has led to a paradigm shift from general anesthesia and hospital stays to Brustradiology services.

Acute mastitis is a breast infection caused by bacteria (mostly on the skin). One wound forms and the germ occurs through this wound and causes the infection. Less frequently, the germ reaches the chest over the bloodstream without a break in the skin.

“The diagnosis is always made with ultrasound, and the percutaneous drainage of the abscess is also carried out with ultrasound instructions,” said Oliver Goldaracena before the course and added that the technology inserts a plastic catheter into the abscess through skin puncture (local anesthesia) to act the PUS to Aspirate The Pus. The catheter stays in place for a week to 10 days.

“It is important to teach the patient how to manipulate the catheter to reduce the pus that accumulates every day at home, and we see them every four to five days until we check whether the infection is solved and we remove the catheter,” emphasized Oliver-Goldaracena.

Breast infection causes pain and redness of the skin and heals quickly, if it is treated with antibiotics immediately. On the other hand, the infection can proceed very quickly (within days) and cause an abscess if the patient is delayed to find medical help (usually in the emergency room or with his family doctor) and cause an abscess, as Oliver-Goldaracena stated.

Further information on the course can be found on the Seram website.
