Review: Series 10 is the best Apple Watch for most people

The Apple Watch Series 10 is smaller and lighter

While some smartwatches see especially as a fitness trackerFor me, you are the successor to the iPod-Nano: Small, easy to navigate that can control my music, podcasts or access to TAP-to-play functions without digging for my phone. In this way, comfort for me is the most important part of a smartwatch.

This has made the SE, the cheapest and so far the smallest smartwatch recommendation for the smartwatch in recent years. Now it is finally the series 10 because it is a full millimeter thinner.

That may not sound like a lot, but they stack these watches side by side and you will find out how much slimmer the series 10 looks. And that also extends how it feels. While the SE sensor can often feel like a coin between my wrist and the watch itself, the sensor of series 10 is hardly noticeable.

This is enough to make it a more pleasant option for me, even if it is a little heavier than the SE. I have not noticed this weight because it is only a few grams, depending on the size they get. (The Series 10 has a 46 -mm face and a 42 -mm face.) I would not have said the same thing about series 9, which can be more than 14 grams than the SE in some cases. I look forward to seeing this problem firmly.

You can thank you part of the weight loss in the new Titan case option. While there is still a slightly lighter aluminum option, Titanium replaces the Premium models with a stainless steel case, which means that you can get a fancier watch without adding too much additional weight. It is a strategy that is borrowed from the iPhone from 15 and up, and while I tested an aluminum model, I had to go into my hand with a titanium version for about half an hour. Like my Titanium iPhone 15 Pro, it is robust, but also thin and light and should hold well on small bumps and drops.

For me, the comfort of series 10 alone is the best Apple clock, as it is the first to be able to carry without any problems. When I heard as if I was going too much over the thickness, I understand: Watch Comfort is a question of personal taste, and some people actually prefer a more problematic device because they feel like they get more for their money. However, I think that the comfort is as impressive as it is because it is not hindered at all by the second largest upgrade in series 10: his screen.

The screen is larger, brighter and faster

With the exception of the Apple Watch Ultra and Ultra 2, Apple Watches have shown two sizes for the last few models: 41 and 45 mm. The Apple Watch SE, which was my model so far, is even smaller, with size options of 40 and 44 mm. The Apple Watch Series 10 is now pressing in 42 and 46 mm.

Here, too, it doesn't sound like a lot, but in addition to my 40 -mm -Apple Watch SE, the 42 -mm series 10 looks almost luxurious. In addition, the bezel is thinner, which means that more of this additional storage space can be used for the display, with which Apple shows more data in certain apps. For example, cards are easier to navigate, and the 46 -mm series 10 actually has a little more screen space than the 49 -mm -Apple Watch Ultra 2.

Usually I would actually worry about this upgrade because a larger screen is not worth discomfort for me. But because series 10 balances its size with a thinner build, it doesn't matter to me. This upgrade would also not mean that much without the last one, but in tandem you will feel the series 10 like the first real generation improvement, which in a while comes to a non-ultra-Apple smartwatch.

But the new screen is not only bigger: it is also brighter and faster. While both series 9 and series 10 can achieve up to 2,000 nits maximum brightness, series 10 is 40% lighter at an angle. This is thanks to the wide-angle-OLED display, and it is definitely noticeable, especially when using the ever-on display.

It is always on-on display, in which the watch is faster. Since I usually use an SE, I couldn't always enjoy your face, but it's nice because the smartwatch feels a bit more like an ordinary watch. Unfortunately, the Apple Watch has always been updated once per minute, but the 10 series can update it for a second.

This means that you can finally get a ticking a second if you have a watch face it uses. Personally, I think it's a little distracted and a Waste of battery lifeBut I admit that it adds a little additional truth to those who want to do their smartwatch is not electronic.

It is also proof of how Apple tried to make series 10 more usable than previous models. This effort also broadcasts audio, but I'm afraid that the watch is not so successful here.

You can use the speaker to play music, somehow

Finally, you can use the Apple Watch loudspeaker to call up more than audio or the Pipton and Boops assigned to its operating system. It is the feature that I have most excited, but unfortunately the 10 was disappointed me the most.

When I heard for the first time that I could now use the loudspeaker for audio content, I introduced myself to choose it as an audio source like everyone else for any kind of content. “Great,” I thought, “I can use it in the shower.” (Yes, this apple watch is waterproof enough, which I will get more of later.)

Unfortunately, the Apple Watch is not displayed as an audio source when connecting to your phone. If you play you from a telephone app with the audio, it is immediately published. YouTube, for which I wanted to use it, was a no -go. Instead, you have to select it as your speaker from a watch app.

“Good,” I argued. “I'll hear Spotify with it.”

No, I soon found it out. At the moment, not all watches apps can recognize the Apple Watch speaker, even if Apple says it works with Apps from third -party providers. Instead, I only found three apps with which content can be output on the loudspeaker: Apple Podcasts, Apple Books and Apple Music.

For me, this immediately led from a usable feature to a novelty, but the spokesman worked well enough for Apple's credit and peaked out the quality with a flip phone from the late 2000s. Although Apple encouraged me to try the watch speaker in the shower, it didn't work so well if it was wet.

What do you think so far?

First of all, you must definitely switch on the water lock here, as this prevents your shower current from registering in the clock's touchscreen. Apple says it should Turn on automatically In “Water -based workouts” I never made my showers trigger them. But even with this set, I couldn't use the watch to be showering reasonably. The volume was simply too low to hear over the water current, and although the inner components are not damaged, water climbed into the speakers as soon as I drove the clock under my shower head, which had dampened the already calm volume. I couldn't repair this for the rest of my shower, even with the water ripple function.

Perhaps it is up to me that I expected too much of it, but I'm not sure where the loudspeaker is used for content. You don't want to use it publicly unless you are a monster. You probably have better options at home. If your phone is in the house and you are lazy, it might work. But at the moment it is a nice function to highlight in PR blogs and not much more.

What is a little more useful is the language isolation that sounds a little clearer when calling up the watch. This is new in series 10, and when I called my partner with it, he said that he couldn't hear a fan who was pressing next to the clock, and this microphone quality was generally much better than on the SE (where the same fan was “very loud”, he said.)

There is sleep apnea recognition

Another highlighted feature that could actually be useful is the detection of sleep apnea, although I could not test it in time for this check. Recently approved by the FDA Apple Watch Series 10's Sleep Apnoe Detection Works by tracking your sleep over 30 days for breathing disorders. The watch then sends a report to your phone with a diagram in which you determine whether the problem is worth increasing your doctor or not, and you can even export the report as a PDF to make your appointment for your appointment.

Apple acknowledges that breathing disorders can also be caused by alcohol, medication or sleeping positions. Therefore, the clock uses “progressive machine learning and an extensive data set of sleep apnea tests clinically based on” to pursue a consistent fault pattern.

Again I haven't had the device for 30 days, but my mother suffered from sleep apnea when she got older. This is something that I would like to catch early, but before this function comes with the Apple Watch, my only real way to follow it at home would be Galaxy Watch instead.

A cheaper diving computer

Before I am complete, I have to talk about another thing that I cannot test: The addition of diving sensors to the Apple Watch Series 10.

They are niche, but they enable them to measure how far they are under water up to 20 feet. In the meantime, you can also see water temperature and how long they have been under water. I'm not a big swimmer, but I can imagine that this could be helpful for swimming -based workouts. Similar special devices indicate more information with more flexibility, but can costs over 500 US dollars.

I tried the deep sensor in a large bucket that is a little under one foot deep, and it showed the temperature exactly, although the central display rounded the depth to say “1ft”. For what it is worth, the depth measuring device on the page was more precise, although it does not provide any specific numbers (instead, a small blue measuring device shows how deeply they are by marking their depths like a thermometer temperature of the old school).

So the clock would look a little below seven feet deep (you can activate a demo mode for the depths app by opening the app and turning the digital crown so that you can see how it works at certain depths without actually being so deep).

While you are in the ocean, you can also use the new Tides app to check when the tides are climbing or lower. This is not so impressive because it only uses pre -existing forecasts and can be easily checked on a telephone or online. However, it is comfortable to have the same device as diving information.
