Two deaths caused by trees that fell on cars were reported in North Virginia on Friday evening, as heavy thunderstorms quickly went through the DC area.

A woman was killed when a tree fell on her car in the area of ​​Mount Vernon and Woodlawn.

Another person died after a tree fell on a car in the GW Parkway area and the Morningide Lane.

Fast -moving heavy thunderstorms whip the DMV on Friday evening with lightning, hail and strong winds.

Some storms were described as “destructive”, with winds of 80 miles per hour that could overthrow the trees and downing current lines.

Several heavy thunderstorm warnings were issued for DC and the surrounding counties in Maryland and Virginia.

A severe thunderstorm for DC and counties such as Arlington, Fairfax, Montgomery and Prince George's was canceled around 6:30 p.m. after the storms had cleared the DMV.

Another round of potentially heavy storms is expected between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m., but will not be as strong as the evening storms.
