FDA and CDC increase the fatalities in the Frozen Shake Recall

According to the Food and Drug Administration, the number of fatalities has risen in a outbreak with a multi -tattent Listeria in connection with frozen supplement shakes.

The increase in deaths from the outbreak comes to Lyons Magnus, a provider of food sectors with its headquarters in Fresno, California, 4 -unzen boxes from Lyons Readycare and Sysco Imperial Frozen Supplemental Shakes for possible risks of the Listeria Contamination. The products were made by Prairie Farms Dairy, Inc. in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Lyons Magnus distributed the products under the brand names Lyons Readycare and Sysco Imperial in the USA, mainly on long -term care facilities. The products were not sold in retail stores and none of the shakes should be available on the market, said the FDA.

The FDA and the US centers for the control and prevention of diseases had identified 38 people who got sick through Listeria poisoning, and 12 people who died in 21 states said the agencies in February 2025. Of the 38 people were taken to the hospital.

On Friday, May 16, the CDC and the FDA increased the number of deaths to 14 and the number of sick people to 42 (41 were hospitalized). The outbreak examination has ended, the agencies said.

The examination of the Listeria outbreak was started in 2018

The CDC began in 2018 with the examination of a breakout outbreak among residents in long-term care facilities and nursing homes with continued investigation of cases in 2021 and 2023-, but could not find sufficient evidence to identify a food school.

What is Listeriosis or Listeria poisoning?

Listeriosis or listeria poisoning is a bacterial infection transmitted by food, which is most often caused by the bacteria -listeria monocytogenes.
