Driver who was killed in a fiery 18-wheel crash on Loop 410

SAN ANTONIO – The driver, who was killed on the northeast side on Tuesday in a fiery crash on Loop 410, was identified.

Bexar County's medical examiner said

A preliminary report by the San Antonio-Police states Olmedo drove an 18-wheel on the lanes of Loop 410 between the I-35 exchange and the Starcrest Drive, when he hit a concrete barrier.

The 18-wheel hit several street signs before fell on the side and caught fire, the police said.

Olmedo died at the scene.

Ksat spoke to a passenger who recorded a video of the crash. You can watch this film material in the video player above.

Esteban Torres said Ksat that the truck was in the barrier and lost control.

“It literally only exploded on the impact,” said Torres. “It is unhappy whether he fell asleep at the wheel or only made a critical mistake, hit something and loses control.”

See KSATS interview with Torres in the video player below.

The vehicle was the only one who was involved in the crash, said the authorities. The cause of the crash is unknown.

The San Antonio police and the fire brigade of San Antonio reacted to the scene.

As a result, the crash arranged the road closures in the railways of East and Westbound of Loop 410 between the I-35 exchange and the Starcrest Drive. The alleys were reopened nine hours after the crash.
