Rae Burrell excluded the Sparks season after knee injury

The sparks may have suffered another major injury bubbles at the beginning of their first game of the season.

In the first quarter of the game on Friday against the Golden State Valkyries, the latest WNBA expansion team, Rae Burrell, is subject to a knee injury. Burrell joined a 3-point shooter and landed awkward and held her right knee down.

Burrell would be worn by the court and would not be able to put her leg under pressure.

After initially excluding them for the first half, the sparks soon followed in half time by excluding them for the rest of the game.

From the break, Ion's secondary reporter added a little more details and said Burrell had gone through tests.

“I spoke to Lynne Roberts and received an update about Rae Burrell, which will not return to this game. However, she doesn't know much more, except Rae is tested the right leg.”

Burrell was prepared for a major role this season. After a season of 2024, in which she appeared as a role piece, in 2025 she saw a year in which she strengthened her role, including potentially a place in the starting line -up.

Unfortunately, knee injuries are not new in Burrell. Burrell suffered an injury to the same right knee in college, which she had injured on Friday. Although it was not an ACL injury, she limited her to 22 games in her senior season. Similarly, she limited a knee injury to just three games in her rookie season.

It is unnecessary to mention that it is less than ideal to lose an important rotation part into the season start. Hopefully it is nothing more than a minor injury.
