Joel Kibe denies the role of the Uon serial scandal, quotes Tokyo Trip »Capital News

Nairobi, Kenya, May 17th – The former member of the University of Nairobi (Uon), Joel Kibe, has contested any participation in controversy and allegedly fraudulent appointments at the university, and explained that he was not from the country at the time when the crime occurred.

Through his legal team, Mwaniki Gachoka & Co., Kibe wrote to the ethics and anti-corruption control commission (EACC) that he was on April 19, 2024 in Japan.

“Our customer was not in Kenya on April 19, 2024. At that time he was in official shops in Japan,” said Kibe's lawyers in a letter to Eacc, in which copies of his plane ticket, boarding pass and the stamp of the passage immigration of his alibi were attached.

The lawyers of Kibe, who have also attached an announcement of Gazette, who announced the revocation of Kibe, argue that these relieving evidence clearly proves that he could not have participated in illegal activities in Kenya that day, and apply for the EACC to consider the documentation before it is accused.

The development took place hours after the dramatic arrest of the chairman of Uon Council, Prof. Amukowa Anangwe, and several high -ranking university officials as part of the expanding examination of the EACC on irregular appointments at the oldest public university in Kenya.

Council members were charged

Prof. Anangwe was arrested at Kisumu International Airport on Friday morning and later together with the co -population members, Dr. Ahmed Sheikh Abdullahi, Carren Kerubo Omwenga, and Brian Ouma, the competitive Chief Operations Officer.

The four were released in the amount of 500,000 SH, every hour after their arrest.

EACC claims that, despite the necessary qualifications, Ouma has been illegally appointed into the COO position.

The investigators claim that the University Council granted him inappropriate services by passing a decision in his favor, which led to five council members, including Joel Kibe and Dr. Darius Mogaka Ogutu, submitted.

During his term as a acting cooo, Ouma is suspended additional charges of 32.4 million SH on salaries for illegal value.

“One -sided” appointments

The arrests follow weeks of turbulence at the university and the increasing pressure of the Ministry of Education, which condemned a wave of the so -called “irregular and one -sided appointments”.

The main secretary of university education, Dr. Beatrice Inyangala, Prof. Anangwe has publicly accused the legal proceedings and not to consult the cabinet secretary before the most important administrators, including the naming of Prof. Francis Mulaa, violates the University Act as an incumbent Vice-Chancellor Das Ministry.

The controversy, after Kenya Ambassador in Belgium, Prof. Bitange Ndemo, rejected his appointment as vice -chancellor, referred to process -related irregularities.

Governance crisis deepens

Kibes removal from the Uon Council at the beginning of this year has now taken up new importance in view of the development examinations. His legal team claims that his absence from the country on the day in question should relieve him of any misconduct in relation to the appointments.

“Our client is ready and ready to work completely with every rightful investigation process,” confirmed his lawyers.

The EACC has not yet issued an official answer to the letter or confirms whether the documentation presented affects all outstanding decisions.

While the investigation into the governance crisis in Uon – including additional allegations of embezzlement and irregular land lease contracts – Kibe will represent the first formal refutation of one of the affected council members.
