Sabu's cause of death can never be revealed, Vince Russo criticizes JC Mateos WWE presentation, Booker T, comments Sabus death

The ECW Icon Sabu died in May 2025 at the age of 61 and led to an outfit of homage from all over the wrestling world.

In a recent sequence of his podcast “1 of a Art”, Rob van Dam opened why the official cause of Sabu could never be published. He said

“His divorce from his ex-wife Hitomi has never been completed and they need their signature to examine the cause of death. But she doesn't want to do anything with it.”

Sabus last match took place against Joey Janela during the Wrestlemania week in Las Vegas, NV. The fight was invoiced as his age game.

After his death, there were reports in which it was claimed that Sabu used drugs before this final appearance and triggered the public comments by Janela, GCW, Brett Lauderdale and others who were involved in the event.

Rob van Dam, a long -time friend and day team partner of Sabu, continued to shared memories and thoughts about the deceased wrestler.

In the week of WWE Smackdown this week, Jeff Cobb was reintroduced under a new name – JC Mateo – as the latest ally of Solo Sikoa. This was his first appearance in the weekly WWE television after his debut at Backlash: St. Louis.

However, not everyone from Mateo's presentation was impressed. In a recent episode of his “Brodown” podcast, wrestling personality Vince Russo Wwes dealt with Mateo's first big TV picture. He said

“Here is the thing, brother – they should be stars. They are on TV, they should look like stars. If you have not seen any counter -reactions, this is the first time that you see JC Mateo. And he has a normal man who is dressed in all black. This is the star presentation? Is that first impression that WWe makes?”

Before Jeff Cobb signed with WWE, he built up an impressive curriculum vitae in New Japan Pro Wrestling in which he held title like the IWGP Tag Team Championship and the never Openweight Championship. After Cobb separated with NJPW, he briefly teased retirement on social media -only to dive again later in a dramatic way, which Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu helped in his surprise -WWE debut.

During a recent edition of his “Hall of Fame” podcast, the two -time WWE Hall of Famer Booker T shares its beautiful memories of the ECW legend Sabu, which recently died at the age of 61.

You can view some highlights from the following podcast:

On Sabus death: “Sabu died at the age of 60. I had a bad day, I had a hard day yesterday. I'm serious. I didn't notice that I would take it so hard, but I swear that I couldn't motivate yesterday. I couldn't go out of bed, I couldn't really get a grip on the death of Sabu.”

At his first encounter with Sabu in Japan in 1992: “I remember the first time when I met Sabu in 1992. I was in Japan and stood in a small place named The Tokyo Inn. And went outside and my brother got ready to go to the gym, and a guy goes up and says: 'Hey, I'm Sabu.' He asked, “What do you do?” [My brother said] He was ready to go to the gym. Sabu asked: “Is it cool when I go with you?” We said: “Yes, it's cool if you want to go.” And I looked at Sabu. He had scars all over the body: on his arms, on his head, on his face, his chest, everywhere. And at that moment I thought: “Man, do I have to do that to go to the business?” I had frightened so damn. “

On the contributions from Sabu to wrestling: “I always had good times in Sabu. He was always quiet, he was always in his own zone. He always went out and performed at his highest level and did what he did best. He was an innovator. He was really innovator.

“So I just want to say Sabu in peace and condolences to his family. He had a damn big career man -and he will definitely be missing.”
