Procedure against capital crimes in schools, churches and public meetings to the governor now

These hideous crimes could get harder punishments.

GOV. Ron Desantis Has the possibility to sign laws (HB 693) This would require the swords to take certain aggravating factors into account in cases of capital crimes, including the question of whether the crime was committed during school behavior or activity, a religious event or a meeting of the public government.

The invoice was exceeded on Friday.

“The purpose of HB 693 is to expressly record an additional difficult factor that would essentially enable the jury that if the capital crime was essentially committed in one place in which more than one person was gathered for school activity, a religious activity or the public government. Reponoring Rep. Mike Redondo said in a committee.

The legislation would require at least eight out of 12 jury to agree to give a death sentence, which corresponds to the law of Florida that enables super majority to decide the death penalty in certain cases.

In addition, a prayer group or a group of Bible, which is held in a private home or for non-church reasons, would be a religious activity and could be regarded by a jury as an aggravating factor.

Not all religious groups supported the draft law in the committee.

Joe Harmonrepresent Florida conference of the Catholic bishopsopposed to the draft law and said a lifelong prison sentence would be a tough punishment.

“We agree that these terrible and tragic crimes are strongly evil. We also agree that the state has a duty to punish criminals and protect society,” said Harmon. “However, we are against the law because they expanded the death penalty. In the present proposal in particular, there is a good reason to doubt the deterrent effect if we have seen in so many cases that the perpetrator is a deeply disturbed person who intends to die in the law.”
