A person who was killed after explosion outside the fertility clinic; The police say that act was “intended”

Palm Springs, California (AP) – An explosion that has severely damaged a fertility clinic in the tiny city of Palm Springs in California seems to have been intended, according to the local authorities. One person was found dead, and the FBI said it sent investigators, including a bomb technician, to the scene.

The chief of police from Palm Springs, Andy Mills, said in a statement on Saturday that the explosion “a deliberate act of violence” and that several buildings were badly damaged.

“There was a death, the person's identity is not known,” said Mills' explanation.

The law was examined as a possible car explosion, said two law enforcement officers who were informed about the matter that insisted on anonymity to discuss preliminary information from an ongoing examination. The authorities have not announced a motive.

The FBI Los Angeles said in a social media contribution to X: “The assets include investigators, bombing technicians and a team of evidence.” The investigators from the office for alcohol, tobacco, firearms and explosives also helped.

The city of Palm Springs said on Saturday that the explosion took place at 11 a.m. and that the residents were asked to avoid the area around the North Indian Canyon Drive near East Tachevah Drive.

Dr. Maher Abdallah, who heads the fertility clinic of the American reproductive centers, confirmed that his clinic was damaged. In a telephone interview, he informed the Associated Press that all of his employees were secure and taken into account. The explosion damaged the office space in practice, where it carried out consultations with patients, but left the IVF laboratory and all stored embryos there unscathed.

“I really have no idea what happened,” said Abdallah. “Thank God today was a day when we have no patients.”

Aerial photographs showed a burned -out car in a parking space behind the building where the office space of the fertility clinic was located. The explosion placed in the roof of the building and blew a wide rubble field over a sidewalk and four lanes on the street on the other side of the structure.

The 47 -year -old Rhino Williams talked to customers in a restaurant that he removed a little more than one block from the scene in the Skylark Hotel when he heard a huge boom. Everything rattled, he said, and Williams – who has a background in aviation – immediately sprinted into the scene to see if someone needed help and thought that a helicopter might have crashed.

Williams saw a large dark gray cloud of smoke and covered his nose with his shirt as he smell burning plastic and rubber. He said that he saw a building with bricks and rubble “blown” everywhere on the street and the front axis of a car had set fire to fire in the parking lot of the building.

He said it was the only car in the lot he saw. He ran into the building, called out and scored behind the counter to see if someone was inside. He didn't hear an answer and saw anyone behind the counter.

Williams said he was walking around to see other nearby buildings. Several windows of the neighboring spirits business were also blown out, he said. As soon as he saw that the authorities arrived, he went back to the hotel.

Nima Tabriz, 37, from Santa Monica, said he was nearby in a cannabis pharmacy when he felt a massive explosion.

“The building just trembled and we go outside and there is a massive cloud smoke,” said Tabrizi. “Crazy explosion. It felt like a bomb started. … we went to the scene and we saw human remains.”

Palm Springs is a Tony community in the desert that has about two hours of Los Angeles. It is known for upscale resorts and a history of the residents of celebrities.
