The Mexican Marine sailboat falls against the Brooklyn Bridge

A Mexican training sailboat with Mexican Navy with almost 300 people on board met the underside of the Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday evening, the New York police department said.

There were 277 people on board, said a fire service officer. Three were considered in a critical condition among the injured and another 17 were serious. Everyone on board the ship should be taken into account, said the official.

The high masts of the ship, the Cuauhtémoc, grabbed the underside of the bridge, according to the video, which was published on social media. The ship flew a huge Mexican flag.

The ship was thrown, but remained from the scene according to the video and pictures when it came to a standstill at the Brooklyn Promenade around 8:30 p.m. His masts seemed to be badly damaged.

“The status of personnel and equipment is checked by naval and local authorities that provide support,” says a social media post that was written in Spanish from the Mexican secretariat of the Navy.

The 23 -year -old Nick Corso ended dinner with friends in a restaurant on the promenade as they saw the ship heading for them.

At first he thought that the ship would clarify the bridge, he said, but then “the upper lights of the mast disappeared behind the bridge and I thought oh, it won't be able to do it.”

When the tip of the mast hit the underside of the bridge, he said: “You could hear it snapping.”

All lanes of the Brooklyn Bridge were briefly closed in both directions, reported the city's emergency management system. The Ministry of Transport evaluates the bridge for structural damage, according to a social media post by Mark Levine, the President of the Manhattan district.

The Cuauhtémoc is used to train sailors, captains and officers at the heroic marine military school Mexico. It is a three -masted barque packed with steel, which was launched in 1982, about 300 feet long with a mast height of 160 feet.

The navigation release under the Brooklyn bridge is 127 feet at flood.

The crash occurred days before the start of the fleet week in New York on May 21. The event, at which seafarers from the USA and other navy around the world come together in the city, shows a parade of ships near Manhattan.
