Brevard County, Florida – The basketball coach of the East Florida State College of State College, Don Smith, who died last year with 83 in Montana, is included in the 2025 class 2025 Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame.

Smith was the head coach of the Brevard Community College, now Eastern Florida State College, 14 seasons and collected 288 victories.

He won two state championships with the Brevard Community College and in the 1999-2000 season the team made the National Championship tournament of the NJCAA Division I 1-2.

Smith was appointed state coach of the year twice and had seven season with 20 wins. He ended a profit of 0.610 and an average of 19.2 victories per season.

In 1996 he was appointed to the Hall of Fame of the Florida College System Activities Association Association and included in the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame in 2020.

He was also sports director at the Brevard Community College and a lot to bring the national Aau basketball to Florida's room coast.

The Indiana, born from Indiana, also trained 12 seasons at the University of New Orleans before he came to Brevard County, and was co -trainer in Georgia Southern from 1971 to 1973.

“Coach Don Smith was one of the most outstanding basketball coach for every coach at the Brevard Community College, and I saw them all,” said Tom Wasdin, a prominent businessman Brevard, former coach at Jacksonville University, and other Space Coast Hall of Famer.

“He was also instrumental in bringing the national Aau basketball to Florida's space. As a sports director, he was very helpful to prevent BCC from falling.

Smith is survived by his wife Vera Smith and his children Smith from North Carolina, Rebecca Fortier from Washington and Everett Fortier from Florida.

In his last season with the Brevard Community College, Smith set up a program record at the time in the 1999-2000 season and his second State tournament championship.

The team went to the NJCAA Division I National Championship tournament for the first time since 1979 and ended the tournament 1-2.

In his 14 seasons, the Montana resident was appointed state coach of the year twice and had seven season with 20 victories at the Brevard Community College.

Smith was also the sports director of the then Brevard Community College and led the women's basketball program to a state tournament place during his time in Melbourne.

Before he came to Brevard County, he spent 12 seasons at the University of New Orleans and ended as a basketball coach and deputy sports director of the men. From 1971 to 1973 he was also co -coach in Georgia Southern.

Brevard County, Florida – The selection committee of the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame announced that the introductory ceremony 2025 will take place on Saturday, May 24th, at the Ostflorida State College in Melbourne. This will be the first personal introduction since then The Covid 19 pandemic.

The Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame Induction Dinner and Ceremony, sponsored by Health First and presented by Tom and Suzie Wasdin, takes place on the evening of May 24th

Tom and Suzie Wasdin are long -time Brevard County entrepreneurs, community supporters and philanthropes. Tom, a NCAA Final Four basketball coach and Brevard sports ambassador, was included in the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.

The meet-and-greet will include an opportunity to speak to the region's sports hionty. The dinner and the induction process, which contain convincing video homages to every attitude, will follow.

The Brevard County High School Breakfast of Champions Recognions Awards will also take place on Saturday, May 24th, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
