1989 Chile World Cup qualifier scandal in 'Simulacro' (exclusive) staged

Chile's Villano production agent and storyboard media work with the Viven film (Switzerland) and Chilean actor producer Benjamín Vicuña to sign a co-production contract for the feature film “Simulacro” during this year's Cannes market. The film directed by Juan Ignacio Sabatini is a political sports thriller based on a real event that shocked the world of football.

“Simulacro” plays in Brazil and dramatizes the 1989 scandal during a World Cup between Chile and Brazil when the Chilean goalkeeper Roberto Rojas organized an injury during the game at the Maracanã Stadium. The incident triggered global outrage and revealed deeply rooted problems in sports.
