Letter: What did Polyamory have to do with the crime?

Your article (The public prosecutor's office looks worried in Anne Arundel County Mord with Polyamorous coupleMay 13, 2025) covers a significant legal development – however, the heading leads with an irrelevant detail that risk the public's understanding by the public.

Nothing in the article suggests that the polyamorous nature of the relationship had the crime itself. The highlighting in the heading creates the misleading impression that the non-monogamy is somehow associated with violence or instability. This implication OB intends or does not play long-term cultural prejudices that have no place in serious journalism.

People in polyamorous relationships, such as those in monogamas, experience the entire range of connection: love, partnership, conflict and sometimes heartache. This fact is not naturally scandalous. It should not be treated as a hook.

A heading should inform, not sensational. I hope the banner will consider the headings with weight and the stories they shape.
