The man was charged with impairment of driving after three children were killed on Hwy in the accident. 401 in Etobicoke

After a crash overnight on the Highway 401, three children are dead in Etobicoke, of which the police believe they are connected to an impairment of driving.

The crash occurred around 12:33 p.m. near Renforth Drive and Highway 401 on the ramp to the east, the Toronto police said on Sunday morning in one post on X.

A vehicle hit a stopped vehicle with six inmates, the police said. It is unclear whether the second vehicle was parked on the street shoulder or not. CBC turned to the police to get more details, but did not immediately receive an answer.

Two children were declared dead on site, said the post office. A third child was declared dead in the hospital.

A fourth child and two adults were taken to the hospital, the police said. All three suffered serious injuries, but are not in a critical condition, said Toronto paramedic.

A 19-year-old man was arrested and faces an impairment of the indictment, the police said. He was the only inmate of the vehicle.

Paramedics could not say whether it was a family in the vehicle stopped. They also did not deliver the age of the victims.

Renforth Drive is closed for police investigations.
