Government time in Louisville: highlights, statistics, quotes

On the street against Racing Louisville, Seattle Reig had to deal with a weather delay that pushed their game together with heat and a blister wind to the next day. They found the opening goal in the 39th minute when Sam Meza sent a ball forward in the transition to Maddie Dahlien, who sneaked into the long post behind a race defender.

The reign did not have much property in the second half, but defended with numbers and recorded the 1-0 victory.

Next for the reign (4-3-2, 14 points), which ended the weekend at 6th place, is a home game against the Washington Spirit (5-3-1, 16 points).

Thoughts on the game:

It was not the most beautiful game, was not the best possession or game game we have ever played, but very proud of the group for the competition, which makes it difficult. I think you [Racing] Had 20 shots, but they had one at the finish line. That says a lot about our grit and resilience. This is a difficult place to play. They were on a role, they are in shape. I thought in the first half, we did the game well, the second half was really difficult for us, but I only said to some of the players there: “I think that's our development now. How hard do we compete as we have just taken part in competitions and show quality?” Because in some games we show our quality, but we don't compete as we did today. And that may mean the difference between us to get three points and not, but if we compete as we did today and we show a little quality, we will not only win these games, but they will feel more comfortable than today.

How the team defended in the box:

I thought she was great. The only thing that is really windy here. In the first half we had the wind, the second half, they had the wind. So we only knew the second half that they would simply continue to put them on. That's why we came here and played a fifth five because we thought we had to deal with a lot. I still think there are things in which we can do better to prevent it, but I thought in the box that we jeopardized our body. We made it really challenging for you. I don't think Claudia [Dickey] Really had to make parades. She had to deal with a lot of crosses, and again the wind was whirled around here, so it was more difficult than it is usually. But yes, I mean, when you get away and you can get three points like this in such a pretty game, you can stick to the fact that we will need it.

If the players who went down were injuries or cramps:

Yes, there was nothing that someone fired with an injury. And I think that's the difficult thing when the game is the next day. We only found out for 45 minutes before we wanted to leave [for the stadium] That we wouldn't play. The girls had driven and prepared their bodies mentally, physically and nutrition last night. And then suddenly we don't just have to play the next day, we have to play at 10:00 a.m. When we come to the east, we always stay on the west coast. So at 9:00 p.m. we ate dinner and went to bed at midnight, a kind of west coast period. So suddenly you have to move this because you have to get up early to play for one clock, which I was not overly happy. But I think such little things played in the small cramps and muscle material we saw. And again I don't make excuses for it, I just think that this is only the reality of the situation.

On Angharad [Haz] James-gymnasts often unnoticed game:

Yes, I mean, I just said to Sam [Meza] And HAZ that I think they both do. And I think your partnership was great and that's really hard work, especially if you don't get a lot of ball. [Savannah] Demelo is a threat. We knew it would be. I thought Jordan Huitema did a good job [Taylor] Flint that we had planned. But yes, Haz and Sam, I think I was so consistent and HAZ always does it, it doesn't get it often, but she was really on her head today to scream it out for us, and it was definitely a grinding.

On Sam Meza, her disorder translates into one goal:

Yes, I mean, I and Sam talk about it all the time. She comes into these positions a lot, and he only gets the ball from his feet and plays it to people who were threatening. And that was our schedule. Could we get Maddie? [Dahlien] and Lynn [Biyendolo] down the sides of your center? We thought that if we could, they were a threat, and so we achieved.

Your thoughts about the game:

Meza: I mean, it was definitely not nice. It is difficult if we have a team that will press us like Louisville, and it forces us to play a game that we don't really like to play, but also a game that we are ready to play if we have to. And I think we do really good work to scream things, and yes, we are only happy to get the three points.

Dahlia: I think there were many things outside of our control, the delay and then the wind today and the heat. And to concentrate as we would grind the game through the game was our biggest focus. And if we had to play like this to get the three points, we had to play like this, and then we can build on the things that we didn't like today.

On your connection to the goal:

Meza: I think I had the opportunity to give her a similar ball in the game earlier, and unfortunately I was unable to give her the ball she needed. When I got the second opportunity, I wanted to put her in the best position to do what she can best do in the box. And fortunately, she has a goal for us, but and also at UNC, it is great to connect in this way and achieve the long goal to achieve one.

Dahlia: I think we found a lot today. When Sam looked up most of the time, I did a run for her and finally it would happen. We looked back the goal and this ball was really pretty and so it is hard for herself, but it is really fun to be able to play with her.

On the effects of the games on the players, the delay had:

Dahlia: Yes, it's out of control again. I think we just accepted it and brought our focus on today. And I think we really dealt with the right mentality. We knew it would be hard. We knew we had to spread it, and sometimes it works, but I think everyone got on. I think our game changer, which really showed us, really helped us bring energy into a game that took itself nearby. And I think that's so important, especially on a road trip, if the legs may not be so fresh. These legs are really important late in the game.

In the defensive grit of the team:

Meza: Yes, absolutely. I mean, loan to our backline and frankly, only everyone, we all broke our cocks to get into the box when they had the balls out far, and it wasn't nice. And it is difficult to be under this pressure, which feels constantly. But I think we did a really good job throughout the season to defend our box and only make sure that we are defensively blocked, and we will try to take care of the attack. But sure to know that we will take care of it defensively.

Dahlia: I think [Yaxley]But also the entire team of coaches. That was definitely a focus for us. And so I think that was really good.
