How to fight In order to defend President Donald Trump's plan to accept a luxury 747 from the nation of Qatar, the administration and its allies seem to have chosen one of the stupidest discussion points in history.

Here the finance minister Scott Besser is on CNN today and explains that it is okay to take a free jumbo jet from a petrostata because the statue of freedom was a gift from France.

Tapper: Even if Qatar now demands nothing but consideration for the jet, this is an invoice that could come. Nobody in the world only gives a 400 million dollar to be nice. The French gave us the Statue of Liberty.

As Jake Tapper pointed out in response, there is an important difference between these two “gifts” in the fact that the congress actually adopted a resolution that authorizes the administration to clarify the “colossal statue” of “freedom”.

This is more than just a funny piece of historical trivia. Some legal experts (and even a few GOP senators) have argued that the transfer of Qatar's “flying palace” – who would apparently serve as Trump's new Air Force One before being donated to his future presidential library – can represent a “emolument” from a foreign state. The constitution prohibits US officials to accept such gifts unless the congress expressly approved. President Ulysses S. Grant applied for and received the approval for the Statue of Liberty in 1877. But as today's legislature emphasized, Trump seems to be concluded with his “corrupt” deal 747 without the consent of the congress.

Incredible, Besent's ridiculous historical analogy is not even new. Trumpworld tried and fails that it has it worked all week. Here is Ann Coulter who tweeted on Tuesday:

I am not sure whether Coulter-a of the few, the hard real characters, who are often ready to criticize Trump, sincerely or sarcastic. Regardless of this, Trump himself was busy condemning his fans' clever observations that the Lady Liberty was a “gift from a foreign nation”.

On the same day, the Republican Senator Kevin Cramer told Fox Business that Katar's offer “is more generous than the statue of Liberty to be honest”. Cramer said that he had not shared Trump's critic of the gift “negative guttural reaction”, although he approved these concerns about the “image” that it presented, were legitimate.

“On the other hand, it is a free plane to cry out loud,” continued Cramer. “The United States give away many things to other countries. If it is a gift of appreciation for this Consideration, I'm not so concerned about it. “
