Foreign Minister Marco Rubio spoke to the time of a potential personal meeting between President Donald Trump and the Russian leader Vladimir Putin in terms of an armistice company in an interview that was broadcast on Sunday.

Trump told reporters on board the Air Force One on Friday when he returned from Abu Dhabi to Washington that no peace in Ukraine would be reached until he personally met Putin. The President added to the truth on Saturday in a social post that he wanted to make calls with Putin on Monday, followed by a call with the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and some NATO leaders.

In the meantime, Rubio said, who took part in Rome on Sunday at the first trade fair of Pope Leo XIV – the Vatican had offered to organize a direct meeting between Ukraine, Russia and possibly other parties.

“Obviously, the Vatican has made a very generous offer to organize something – by the way, not only a meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin, but also every meeting, including a technical level – you know that all meetings that have to be organized have expressed willingness to do so.” I think it would be a website that would feel comfortable. Hopefully we will come to this phase where discussions take place regularly and that the Vatican has the opportunity to be one of the options. ”

Rubio had a call with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on Saturday after Putin was a personal meeting with the Russian leader with Zelenskyy in Turkey in Turkey in Turkey last week. Despite Putin's absence, the Ukrainian and Russian delegations agreed to an exchange of 1,000 people from each side, although a broader ceasefire or a peace agreement did not come about.

CBS presenter Margaret Brennan asked Rubio if he spoke to Lavrov about showing a personal meeting between Trump and Putin.

“Well, we talked about a variety of things,” said Rubio. “I wanted to read his view of his view of the conversations yesterday. They were not a full waste of time. For example, 1,000 prisoners were replaced, and from a humanitarian point of view he is very positive. He explained to me that they would prepare a comprehensive negotiations.”

Rubio said the Ukrainians will soon be working on their own proposal, and he hoped that suggestions were “serious and viable” from both sides.

“So we have to wait and see. But he wanted me to know and he communicated in our call that their site is working on a series of ideas and requirements that they would have to find an armistice and further negotiations,” he said.

Rubio said the United States “testing” whether the Russians only “tap”, as Trump proposed, could be the case.

Zelenskyy speaks to Trump, allies according to Russia peace talks that have no ceasefire

“On the one hand, we try to reach peace and end a very bloody, expensive and destructive war. So a certain element of patience is necessary. On the other hand, we have no time to waste time,” said Rubio. “There are many other things in the world that we also have to pay attention to. So we do not want to be included in this process of endless conversations – there must be some progress, some movements forward. And if a document that is produced on both sides in the next few days will be produced.

“If what we see is not very productive, we may make a different assessment. I also agree that one of the things that can break this logjam – perhaps the only thing that can – is a direct conversation between President Trump and Vladimir Putin.

Rubio urged whether the personal conversations between Trump and Putin were planned and confirmed that the president had already made this public.

He wants to do it as soon as possible. I think the Russian team has also expressed the willingness. And now it is only a matter of bringing them together and finding out where and when and this meeting will happen and what it is about.”
