Palghar: A Dimethylsulfate Lob on Camlin Fine Fine Sciences injured 13 workers, which leads to eye irritation. They are observed, but not in life -threatening.

Palghar: A random leakage of dimethylsulfate (DMS) at 3 a.m. on Sunday in a manufacturing unit at Tarapur Midc in Palghar affected 13 workers. They are currently being observed in a hospital in Boisar.

The accident occurred in an industrial unit of Camlin Fine Sciences LTD, which is located on the property number. D-2/3, MIDC Tarapur. The factory has about a thousand workers and employees and produces antioxidants.

A preliminary investigation was carried out by SG Sabban, deputy director of the Directorate for Industrial Safety (DISH). The examination showed that a 500-liter receiver was used to the DMS solution from Appendix No. 4 to Plants No. 10. At 3 a.m., after the transfer, a delay when the insulation valve is closed at the receiving end result led to a burial of 10–15 kg DMS.

The dangerous nature of DMS led to the spilled amount of vapors, which led to eye irritation for the nearby workers. Two operators received first aid in the factory. After the return of the workers of the morning shift, however, many complained about eye irritation.

The 13 affected workers are treated in a private eye hospital in Boisar. Dr. Ratnakar Mane, a doctor present, said the exposure was not life -threatening. The workers are kept under observation in the hospital and are expected to be released on Monday.
