Bucharest, Romania-Romanian Central Bucharest Mayor Nicusor Dan, won the country's presidential elections on Sunday to annoy a shocked reinforcement to a firm right, nationalist rival that was committed to bringing Romania on a way that was inspired by the politics of US President Donald Trump.

Official results of almost all voting stations showed that Dan, who achieved about 54% of the ballot papers, which the voters in the EU and the NATO member country were handed over by around 19 million people, while the Trump supporter George Simion was 46%.

The 55-year-old Dan, a quiet mathematician, made a Eurosceptic in the last few days after the subsequent Simion who wanted to end military help for Ukraine in his war. The choice was drawn in a Romanian election for 25 years the highest percentage of the turnout.

Simion, who was in the first round two weeks ago with 41% of the ballot papers in the first round of the voters, admitted that he had previously won the election.

Dan had campaigned for a promise to combat known corruption, to receive support for Ukraine – where Romania played an important logistical role – and keep the country firmly in the European mainstream.

On Sunday evening in the capital, Bucharest, followers Dan, “Russia, do not forget that Romania doesn't belong to you.” In the run -up to the election, Dan said that the support of Romania for Ukraine was decisive for his own security against a growing Russian threat.

The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated Dan on his “historical victory” and wrote on social media: “For Ukraine – as a neighbor and girlfriend – it is important to have Romania as a reliable partner.”

The coordination in Romania took place on the same day as the first round of a Polish election, in which a liberal leader, Rafal Trzaskowski, ahead of Karol Nawrocki, the candidate supported by the nationalist law and judicial party of the opposition, was repressed in front of Karol Nawrocki.

Both elections are closely observed throughout Europe, since dealing with the mainstream elites on migration and living costs could support the support for Trump and undermine the unit on the continent about dealing with Russia.

In Romania, however, the election showed setbacks against the politicians who were inspired by the right populist Trump's Make America Great Over (Maga).

“This is a really strong result for the pro-European candidate,” said Rahman.

“It is another example of the positive Trump effect on the European election cycles, in which concerns about the political and political direction that move in a Maga-like manner that mobilizes voters.”

Dan admitted that he was faced with a difficult challenge to find a prime minister who negotiates a majority in parliament in order to reduce the budget deficit in Romania – the largest in the EU – and to calm and try investors to avoid downgrading creditworthiness.

“There will be a difficult time ahead of them that is necessary for the economic orientation of the basics of a healthy society. Please have hope and patience,” Dan told the supporters after the exit surveys had been released.

Dan said later that the talks could take a few weeks.

The election was canceled almost six months after the first election, because alleged Russian interference by Moscow in favor of the right -wing extremist leader Calin Georgescu, which was again default, was excluded.

Romania seemed ready to swing to Russia, had won Georgescu, and Simion set up a campaign to benefit from his support, which signaled that he would nominate him as Prime Minister if he emerged as the winner.

Shortly after the end of the vote, Simion said that his choice was “clear”.

“I won !!! I am the new President of Romania and I give the Romanians back!” Said Simion on Facebook. But Simion received the choice later in the evening.

A lot of Dan's supporters celebrated his victory in front of his campaign headquarters in downtown Bucharest.

“These elections are really important for the European future,” said Ilinca Sipoteanu, 19.

Romanian communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu was overthrown in 1989.
