See: 'American Idol' crowns his winner of season 23

May 19 (Upi) – American idol called his winner of the 23rd season.

The 27 -year -old Jamal Roberts received the title during the season finale, which was broadcast on ABC on Sunday. The other finalists were John Foster and Breanna nothing.

“I'm still trying to process this,” wrote Roberts on Instagram on Monday. “God is so good. From my first step on this phase to this incredible moment, I have never dreamed that a child from my hometown one day is called American Idol. This trip was greater than me, and I am so grateful for everyone who believed in me when I only hunted a dream.”

Season 23 was Roberts' third auditions for the show.

“I was not defeated,” he said to Billboard. “I never gave up. I took it no. I was always able to accept constructive criticism and use it for my profit and try again. That was always me.”

Roberts teaches physical education and comes from Mississippi. He has three daughters – Harmoni, Poetry and a newborn, Gianna Grace Roberts.

“Above all, I hope that my girls see and know that with faith, hard work and heart everything is possible,” he continued on Instagram. “For my city, my family and everyone out there, after a little bigger grinding, this is our victory. Well, I can make music with the best in the world and share my story. But that's not the end … it's just the beginning. With all my heart! Nothing happens without you all.”

Good Charlotte, Jessica Simspon and Jelly Roll were among the stars who performed during the season finale.

Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan served as a judge.
