Man was charged with high-speed crash in 2024, in which nun was killed

Duluth, Minn. (Northern News now) – A man was killed a nun almost a year after a high -speed accident.

The 24 -year -old Damien John Brown from Duluth was charged with negligent operation of a vehicle because he had a vehicle negligent and caused large assault.

After the criminal complaint, the officials reacted to an accident with two vehicles at the crossroads of the Lake Avenue and the Fourth Street at the beginning of May 2024.

When the authorities arrived, they found a black Ford fusion with “heavy” front-end damage that had hit a Subaru forester.

The investigation showed that the Subaru traveled north on the Lake Avenue when it approached the crossing of the fourth street.

According to the authorities, the driver of the Subaru stopped on the stop sign and then went through the intersection, since there were no vehicles at the intersection.

When the Subaru went through the intersection, she was reportedly hit by the merger on the driver's side, which was driven by Brown.

Witnesses stated that the merger accelerated and drove through the stop sign for traffic to the east.

It was reported that the merger met the Subaru with a high speed rate, which led to it turning over several times.

A Chevy suburb was also at the scene, but was not involved in the accident.

The driver of the suburb told the police that she was Brown based on an earlier incident in which Brown left her vehicle and the scene.

When Brown spoke to the police, Brown allegedly admitted to debt and explained what happened to the suburb.

Brown supposedly drove north on the I-35 when he “brakes” a green truck.

For this reason, the truck's vehicle caused Brown's vehicle, causing control of the car and roaming the suburb.

Brown claimed that he drove over at first, but in panic when he realized that his driver's license had been revoked privileges.

Then he supposedly fled the scene and the suburb followed him.

Court documents state that Brown left on the I-35 and the Mesaba Avenue and continued to the north until he turned to fourth street.

Brown supposedly admitted to reaching speeds of 50 to 55 miles per hour, while driving through the stop sign in the Fourth Street and reaching Subaru.

The first aiders stated that Sister Arlene Louise Kleemann, OSB (Order of St. Benedict), the passenger in the Forester, had suffered “significant” injuries.

She was taken to a nearby hospital for her injuries and received emergency surgery and medical treatment in the next few days.

Court documents say that Sister Kleemann did not respond well to the treatment and was finally moved to a facility for nursing homes.

Sister Kleemann's condition deteriorated and she died six weeks after the accident.

According to a medical examiner, her cause of death was determined as “complications of several dull trauma violations due to a motor vehicle collision”.

In September 2024, the investigators carried out an accident reconstruction to determine the approximate speed with which Brown's vehicle drove before they met the Subaru sister Kleeman.

The investigators said they could find that the speed of the fusion was about 17 feet from the crash.

“With the assumption of a calculation of +/- 10 miles per hour on the speed range, the black Ford fusion was at least 73 miles per hour when he met Subaru, which was occupied by Sister Kleemann,” says the criminal complaint.

The speed limit in all directions in which the crash occurred was 30 miles per hour.

Brown has a lengthy criminal history of drive violations, including a DWI in the same month as the crash.

He faces a prison sentence of up to 10 years if he is convicted. His next court date is set for June 2.
