IUIU Academic Registrar Dr. Halima on site via a wrong final scandal

The academic registrar of the Islamic University in Uganda (iuiu), Dr. Halima Wakabi Akbar was involved in a wrong final scandal that shaken the institution.

According to Sources, the problem is based about two years ago, in which some non -qualified people were irregularly included in the list of graduates, a matter that was later uncovered by university management.

“The IUIU academic registrar is on site to make some people fake conclusions. The previous scandal concerns two people,” the source noted.

The available information shows that one of the people who allegedly benefited from irregularity is a government official who currently serves in Mbale. Rehema Katono, public work officer of the university, confirmed that an investigation was initiated in a suspected conclusion of fraud scandal after the allegations emerged.

She explained that the rector of the university established a committee for academic matters to examine the topic, and the results of the committee later associated the academic registrar.

“One of the most important recommendations for the committee was that the academic chancellor has the office. The rector has written a letter since then. However, a top management meeting of the board is planned for Thursday this week to determine the next procedure,” said Katono.

Katono also explained that the registrar had been temporarily transferred from her position, whereby the discussions about the implementation were implemented in the institutional planning department.

However, this step still requires approval by the Start -up committee, which has not yet convened.

“Most topics are clarified according to the upcoming meetings of management and the board of directors. According to these consultations, a formal explanation is made,” said Katono.

With regard to the two students who allegedly received a conclusion, Katono found that there was speculation about the revocation of their degrees, but no final decision was made.

“It is expected that the people will receive a fair hearing before coherent measures are taken,” she added.

Dr. Wakabi wrote the story as the first woman who served as an academic registrar of IIIU. Previously, she was also director of the iuiu campus in Kabojja from 2009. During her tenure, she is guided several reforms and the academic services on campus are improved.

Despite the severity of the allegations, some of the university employees have expressed concerns that the situation could be rooted in an internal power struggle or a targeted witch hunt against the registrar.

These claims do not remain checked because most sources have refused to speak in the recording. The urn made several attempts to contact the people concerned. However, the registrar had returned repeated calls at the time of publication, while one of the graduates involved had initially approved an interview but did not hold out.

In the meantime, degrees fraud scandals for Uganda's universities are not new. Many institutions were shaken by such controversy at one time or another. It is often not qualified people who are recorded in final lists, from people who never visited the university to students who did not meet the academic requirements but still appeared as graduates.

For example, the maker University faced a large scandal in 2015 when over 600 students of the degree were suspected with changed exam results, even though they had not passed their courses.

Similarly, Kyambogo University was tried in 2022 with the support of some university officials to manipulate student traces about the student portal.

Discrepancies were revealed by department heads during a thorough review when the original paper data records did not match the online data. This led to the removal of the students concerned from the final list and to arrest the affected employees of the ICT department of the university.
