The former Kentucky star Georgia Amoore suffers an ACL injury during the mystics' practice

Just a few weeks after the selection of the sixth in the WNBA design of 2025, the former star of Kentucky Wildcats, Georgia Amoore, suffered a setback in her professional career. The Washington Mystics announced on Tuesday that the rookie guard suffered an injury to the right front cruciate ligament (ACL) during the team practice.

The 23-year-old Amoore went to the second official training session of the season after the media day on Monday during the training on Tuesday. While the mystics confirmed the ACL injury in a press release, they did not state the heaviness or whether the tape was completely or partially torn.

“Amoore and the team will examine treatment and rehabilitation options and, if necessary, provide an update,” wrote the team.

The injury throws doubts about amoor availability for the coming season, a disappointing development for both the franchise and fans who had great hopes for the fiery Australian point guard. Nevertheless, the lack of clarity in the report leaves a small window of hope that the injury may not be the end of the season. If it is more serious, Amoore would have almost a whole year before the previous season to recover.

Amoore had an outstanding campaign from 2024–25 in Kentucky with an average of 19.6 points and 6.9 assists per game, while he led the wildcats to their first NCAA tournament victory since 2021. Since Rhyne Howard in 2022 she has achieved a consensus-all-American honor with Rhyne Howard in Kentucky.

Further updates are expected because the mystics further evaluate the injury.
