Former Santa Cruz Warrior faced with a possible death penalty in Indonesia

A basketball player who once played for the Santa Cruz Warriors was arrested because he was supposed to try to bring illegal drugs to Indonesia where he is currently playing professional basketball. He could be exposed to a life in prison or in the death penalty if he was found guilty.

Jarred Dwayne Shaw, 34, from Dallas, Texas, was arrested in early May after taking over a police over his apartment outside of Jakarta, where the officials confiscated 132 parts of cannabis sweeties, reported the Associated Press. The drug laws of Indonesia are very strict, and those who have been convicted of smuggling can be sentenced to death by firing cadres.

Shaw has played for several teams in the Indonesian basketball league since 2022, but had a short stay at the Santa Cruz Warriors in the 2015-2016 season.

According to Ronald Sipayung, the police chief of the Sailekarno-Hatta airport, Shaw's arrest followed a tip from the need for the airport, who reported that the basketball player had received a suspicious package from Thailand in which cannabis recently decriminalized in November 2024.

Shaw currently played for the Tangerang Hawks, who immediately fired him. The Indonesian basketball league banned him to play for life.
