Fischer in Fremont react to train accidents in which 3 injured babies were killed

Fremont, Ohio (WTVG) – The fishing community in Fremont is still trying to find out with the tragedy that developed on Sunday evening. Some of them even experienced how the child's body was recovered from the water on Monday morning.

Three people were killed on Sunday evening and a baby was hospitalized after an incident.

Several people who spoke with 13 action news said they had been to Femont for years to fish, but they have never expected or experienced something like that.

The calm scene on the Sandusky River on Monday does not catch the wave of mourning that these fishermen really feel.

“I will never forget that. You can't forget that,” said Rick Poindexter.

Poindexter comes from Columbus and visits Fremont for a short fishing trip that turned more than he has enlarged.

“I would not have thought that I would see that they pull the body out of the water. We saw how a sheet went up and then the body was wrapped in a sheet. They know that it was the body. My heart sank because they know that it was the child,” said Poindexter.

Pointdexter said he was shocked after finding what happened on Sunday evening.

“It is devastating because it is a child. I don't care whether it was my child or child or child, that was a child who lost his life, and they don't know why they don't understand why,” said Poindexter.

Bernie Whitt has the deliveries of the bait business in the city. He says he thinks he met the victims on Sunday.

“I think they were here, they go to the description of age. I think they bought fishing licenses yesterday. One lady had a child, a one -year -old child with her, and it looks as if she had her mother with her and bought a fishing license. But I'm not sure until I see the pictures, but I am sure that she got through yesterday,” said Whitt.

Marty Sowell is another fisherman who has been coming to Fremont from Cleveland for years. Although he does not know the victims, he feels the grief as if he did it.

“I was with a broken heart. I was really because when I started the age of the five -year -old, 14 -month -old hearing, everyone who is a person has to feel. It has to hit home somewhere. I have my own great -grandchildren,” said SOW.

A monument is now being set up at the base of the bridge. Strangers come together to honor this family, who suffered an unthinkable loss.
