In the 1990s, Larry Garrison was the main support for the very successful PREP All-Star series and was also significantly involved in the start of live radio programs from high school sports

BREVARD COUNTY, Florida – an award that celebrates a lifelong performance for a lifetime, recognizes the persistent, extraordinary performance of an individual over a longer period of time. Lifetime Achievement Awards are often awarded for services in an area or an industry.

However, the effects of the recipient of the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award on our community are a wide brush line of closely related and important aspects of our life: health, fitness and sport.

Larry Garrison lost his bold two and a half year fight against cancer in 2020 and the Space Coast lost one of the most respected community leaders, visionaries in the healthcare and sports ambassador.

Garrison moved to Brevard in 1973 to take over the management of the administration of the Cape Canaveral Hospital and ended up much more than one job. “I fell in love with Brevard County,” he said.

In the following decades, his commitment to the community played in the development of today's healthcare system, the integrated health network, which our community has familiarized and was integrated on, and depends.

At the top with Garrison are colleagues from the committee from left to right, Giles Malone, Rusty Buchanan, Keith Malone, Tom Palermo and Dr. Jim Palermo. (BBN picture)

In his capacity as a prominent health manager in the community, Larry was an integral part of many philanthropic and humanitarian events and organizations at the Space Coast and was celebrated in 2010 as a humanitarian central florida. At the beginning of his career, he also recognized the positive effects he could have on the Space Coast Sports scene.

Garrison, an enthusiastic golfer and sports fan, took advantage of the opportunities that offered him as the best health leader in the district to support sports agency venues, events and organizations.

Almost every community accuracy tournament first had the financial and participative support of Cape Canaveral Hospital and/or Health. The Health First Banner was a main support in almost every high school stadium or auditorium of every sporty discipline.

In the 1990s he was the main support for the very successful PREP All-Star series and was also significant at the start of live radio programs of high school sports, which, as everyone knows, is now a multi-sports support of the Space Coast Daily throughout the district.

Larry's love for sport, the advocacy of the Space Coast Sports and his constant support of community fitness through the three fitness centers at Health First brought him a place as a founding member of the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame Review Board at the beginning 2011.

One can certainly say that only a few if someone who had hit Larry was not impressed by their relaxed nature, warmth and generosity. Larry, who touched so many lives both professionally and personally over his 70 years on earth, was a real athlete.

I can say very humble and sincerely that Larry Garrison's contributions to life and success and his character are so that we should all strive for.

The former Governor of Florida, Lawton Chiles, presented Larry Garrison a proclamation in the early 1990s during the visit to the governor in Brevard County.
